7 Days in Hawaii
Maui has a way of capturing your heart the moment the warm trade winds hit your face at the airport. This week-long journey is about slowing down to the rhythm of the ocean, finding hidden waterfalls along winding jungle roads, and watching the sun dip below a blanket of clouds from ten thousand feet in the air. You will taste the sweetest gold pineapples, snorkel alongside gentle sea turtles in sheltered coves, and feel the ancient energy of the land. It is a collection of my favorite moments on the Valley Isle, shared like a note passed between friends who love the sea. We split our stay between the sun-drenched coast of Wailea and the dramatic shores of West Maui to minimize driving and maximize your time in paradise. Pack your reef-safe sunscreen, slip into your favorite sandals, and let the island guide you.

Maluaka Beach
Description
Maluaka Beach, nestled along the scenic Makena coastline, is widely regarded as one of the best beaches on Maui for snorkeling. Often referred to as 'Turtle Town,' the calm, clear waters here are home to a thriving reef system that attracts a large population of Hawaiian green sea turtles (honu). The beach itself features soft, golden sand and is framed by lush green lawns and kiawe trees, providing plenty of shade. To get the best visibility and avoid the afternoon trade winds, arrive by 8:00 AM. Enter the water near the rocky southern end of the beach, where the coral reef begins. Remember to maintain a respectful distance of at least 10 feet from the turtles, as they are protected marine animals.
Snorkeling at Turtle Town
Swim alongside gentle green sea turtles and schools of colorful tropical fish, including the humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa (Hawaii's state fish). Bring your own snorkel gear or rent a high-quality set from a local shop in Kihei.
Ululani's Hawaiian Shave Ice
Description
No trip to Maui is complete without experiencing shave ice, and Ululani's is widely considered the gold standard on the island. Located along South Kihei Road, this local favorite crafts their shave ice using extremely fine, snow-like ice that absorbs their gourmet, house-made syrups made with pure cane sugar and real fruit concentrates. The result is an incredibly flavorful, melt-in-your-mouth treat. For the ultimate local experience, order your shave ice with a scoop of premium macadamia nut or toasted coconut ice cream at the bottom, and top it with a drizzle of sweetened condensed milk (known as a 'snow cap') and a sprinkle of li hing mui powder.
Classic Hawaiian Shave Ice Treat
Cool off with a custom shave ice. Try popular local flavor combinations like the 'Haleakala' (coconut and dulce de leche) or the 'No Ka Oi' (coconut, mango, and passion fruit) for a true taste of the islands.
Te Au Moana
Description
Te Au Moana, which translates to 'The Sharing of Ocean Currents,' is a spectacular, highly-rated traditional luau held on the oceanfront lawns of Wailea. This immersive cultural experience tells the story of the migration of the Polynesian people across the Pacific to the Hawaiian islands through song, chant, and dance. The evening begins with interactive cultural activities, including temporary tattoo stamping, flower lei making, and the traditional imu ceremony, where a whole pig is unearthed from an underground earth oven. Guests are treated to a lavish buffet of authentic Hawaiian dishes, including Kalua pork, lomi lomi salmon, poi, and fresh local fish, culminating in a breathtaking fire-knife dance performance as the sun sets over the ocean.
Te Au Moana Oceanfront Luau Experience

Haleakalā Summit
Description
Haleakalā, meaning 'House of the Sun,' is a massive dormant shield volcano that forms more than 75% of the island of Maui. The summit, located within Haleakalā National Park, rises to an astonishing 10,023 feet above sea level. The landscape at the top is otherworldly, featuring a vast, silent crater filled with volcanic cinder cones that resemble a lunar landscape. Watching the sunset from the summit is a deeply spiritual and visually stunning experience, as you stand above a thick blanket of clouds while the sky turns brilliant shades of orange, pink, and purple. Because of the high elevation, temperatures at the summit can drop below freezing, so it is absolutely essential to pack heavy layers, blankets, and warm jackets. After sunset, stay a while to witness the incredibly clear night sky, which offers world-class stargazing.
Sunset Above the Clouds & Stargazing
Watch the sun sink below the cloud line from the summit overlook. Once darkness falls, marvel at the Milky Way and countless constellations visible in the pristine, high-altitude night sky. Bring a flashlight and drive carefully down the winding mountain road.
